Farm Description

Sue - My dad Alf Chambers selected Utopia Downs in 1960 & I was brought here as a 3 week old baby to a tin hut with an antbed floor. It was a big undeveloped property of 24,000 acres. All the brigalow was standing scrub & there was 300 acres of rung bark country on the eastern end of the property where it was decided to build the house. Utopia is in 2 blocks. We operate the southern block.
The land is fully developed & is grassed with natural & improved (buffel) pastures. We have our own dozer & blade plough. We use it an ongoing programme to control the brigalow suckers & renovate tired pastures (seeding with butterfly pea, burgundy bean & other mixes).
Fenced into 26 paddocks, 2 stockyards & a lane system.
We have 2 other properties in the district & operate a livestock transport business as well.
